Pets and carpet flooring do go together!

Pets and carpet flooring do go together!

You can have carpeting if you have pets. Today, technology has enabled mills to create versions with extra stain resistance and durability.

Some even have pet-friendly warranties! Read further to see what you should consider when shopping for rugs with four-legged residents.

Take a close look at the fiber

This defines the rug. That's because fiber is the material from which the yarns are made.

There are both natural and synthetic fibers. Both are great, but it will come down to how much you value specific characteristics.

Wool is natural. It is soft and luxurious and has a very durable floor covering.

Don't worry about the color. Wool has natural oils with tiny scales that flick off the dirt.

Nylon, polyester, and other synthetic rugs

Nylon and polyester are the two most popular synthetic choices. Nylon is super strong with good stain resistance and is ideal for the heaviest trafficked floors.

Polyester is non-absorbent with superior stain resistance. As a result, it's best for moderate foot traffic.

Other great synthetics are olefin (polypropylene), budget-friendly, and often associated with Berber (looped) styles. Triexta is strong and has permanent stain resistance built into the fiber.

Consider construction

You'll see Berbers, shags, and assorted cut-piles and loops when you come into our carpet store. They're from mills like Mohawk, Dixie Home, and more.

Some styles are better for specific installations than others. For example, low pile rugs, like Berber-style, are easier to keep clean and more durable.
